What is the booking fee and why do I pay it?

The MeetAnInsider booking fee is 15% of the experience price, charged immediately to your card at reservation. It secures your slot and covers the introduction service. The host's fee is paid directly to them on the day — cash, PayPay, or bank transfer. You'll always see a clear breakdown at checkout before you pay anything.

How does cancellation work?

Cancel at least 48 hours before the experience start time and you'll receive a full refund of the MeetAnInsider booking fee. Cancel within 48 hours and the booking fee is non-refundable. The host's fee is only paid on the day, so you're never charged for it if you cancel.

What if the host doesn't show up?

If the host doesn't appear within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, mark a no-show through the app. You'll receive a full refund of the booking fee and the host will be reviewed by our team. Contact support@meetaninsider.com if you need help on the day.

How do I check in at the meeting point?

You'll receive a QR code by email after your booking is confirmed. Show it to the host at the meeting point — they'll scan it with their phone to confirm you've arrived. After the experience, you'll be asked to confirm it happened on your side too. Both confirmations unlock the review.

What if I want to bring more people than the listing allows?

Each listing has a maximum participant count set by the host. If you need more spots, contact support and we'll check whether the host can accommodate your group. Do not turn up with extra guests without confirming first.

Are the reviews real?

Only guests who have completed a booking and had both sides confirm the experience can leave a review. There is no way to leave a review without having been there.

What languages are experiences available in?

Each listing specifies the languages the host speaks. Filter by language on the experiences page to find hosts who speak yours.

For hosts

How do I apply to host?

Submit your application through the 'Host an experience' page. Our team will review it and reach out to schedule an in-person meeting. Most applicants hear back within 5 business days.

Do I need professional experience in my passion?

No. What matters is genuine passion and the ability to share it one-to-one. We have hosts who are ceramics hobbyists, former bartenders turned sake obsessives, and lifelong martial arts practitioners. The criterion is depth and authenticity — not certificates.

How do I get paid?

You set your own price. Guests pay it directly to you on the day — cash, PayPay, or bank transfer. MeetAnInsider never touches your earnings. There is no platform commission on your price.

What if a guest doesn't show?

Scan the guest's QR code at the meeting point. If they haven't shown up after 15 minutes, mark it as a no-show in the app. You are not penalised. The guest does not receive a refund of the MeetAnInsider booking fee.

How many bookings do I need to take?

There is no minimum. Some hosts run two sessions a month; others run two a year. You open slots when you're free — we never pressure volume.

Can I pause or close my listing?

Yes — at any time, from your dashboard. Pausing hides your listing from search without deleting anything. You can reactivate instantly. You cannot close slots that already have bookings without cancelling them.
